Industrial decarbonisation, competitiveness, and the future of work: Monika Martišková at Dekarbonizácia 2026
June 25, 2026
How can Slovakia decarbonise its industry while maintaining competitiveness, supporting regional development, and creating quality jobs?
These questions were at the centre of the conference Dekarbonizácia 2026, organised by euBrief on 23 June 2026 in Bratislava.
The event provided a platform for representatives of government, industry, local authorities, energy experts, and researchers to discuss the challenges and opportunities of industrial electrification and the green transition.
CELSI Senior Researcher Monika Martišková participated in the panel "Industrial Reality in the Regions: Investment, Transformation and the Labour Market" alongside representatives of industry, municipalities, and business organisations.
Alongside Monika Martišková, the panel featured Matej Slezák (Heneken Melts), Rudolf Mackovič, Executive Director of the Slovak Cement Producers Association (ZVC SR), and Michaela Hletková Ploszeková, Head of the Environment Department at Volkswagen Slovakia. The discussion was moderated by Irena Jenčová, Senior Editor at euBrief.
Drawing on findings from the DEEPLAB project, Monika Martišková highlighted that decarbonisation is not only a technological and environmental challenge, but also a labour market challenge.
While industrial production is expected to remain an important pillar of the Slovak economy, the transition will change the structure of jobs and skills demand, increasing the need for workforce adaptation, reskilling, and effective public policies supporting a just transition.
Research also suggests that the impacts of decarbonisation will vary across sectors and regions, requiring targeted policy responses.
